Encanto de Itapoan balances the agitation of New Year's in the city and the soothing tranquillity of a host of nearby beaches. A New Year's Eve Family Dinner is gratis! And New Year's Eve itself? Grand fireworks shows from both the Sofitel and the Hotel Catussaba (each several minutes away from Encanto de Itapoan, hundreds of people gathering on the beach at Catussaba from where the fireworks from both hotels can be enjoyed). New Year's may be passed at the barracas right on the beach there. A traditional alternative would be the parties at the hotels themselves, with dance bands and champagne at midnight. There's also New Year's at the Barraco do Lôro (rated by Veja Magazine as Salvador's Best Barraca of 2005), up the beach a bit, and the other beach barracas on the praias of Flamengo, Stella Maris, and Pedra do Sal will be open and functioning as well. And night club Casquinha de Sirí, on the beach at Piatã, his its traditional New Year's Eve party, with bands and all-night dancing. Leaving our area and moving down to the Farol da Barra there is another Salvador tradition -- the show at the Farol itself, always featuring some of Brazil's greatest musicians, with a spectacular show of fireworks at midnight. We can arrange space in the ballroom at the Art Deco Edifício Oceania, across from the Farol, from which the show and fireworks can be taken in amid celebratory dining and dancing.
