Dear Octa and Janet,

Below is the Trip Advisor submission, I entered yesterday. You may use it on your webpage if you would like.

The title says it all - our stay here was a highlight of a week in the Northeast of Brazil. Pousada Encanto de Itapoan had it all - the quiet getaway, the   making of  new friends and a memorable night out.

Being on a side street, 100 m from the beach, Pousada Encanto de Itapoan was a sanctuary when you needed it.  The room itself was nicely decorated and very comfortable.  My wife and I spent time sitting on the balcony of our room enjoying the fine weather and the birds which would come to rest on the wall.

When we wanted more company, we went to the second story reading room or down to the eating area which was by the pool.  After breakfast one morning, we had a great chat with Janet, one of the owners.  We also had shorter conversations with other guests.

We wandered down to the beach watching the waves and the people.

When we needed something extra there were several small stores nearby to pick up what we needed. As well, there were at least four excellent restaurants within a five minute walk.

The highlight of our stay was an outing on Saturday with Octacilio and friends.  We went to what would be best called a “Samba Fest”.  It was the type of outing where you felt that you had discovered a secret world.  The happy, dancing crowd included all ages from toddlers to the elderly.  The commonality was love of this Brazilian music.

We will return to Salvador, Bahia and the Pousada Encanto de Itapoan soon.

Doug and Marion

Dear Octacilio,

I'm safe back to Miami, back to the real world.
Now, here is very very cold (as low as 3 degrees celcius), which is quite
unusual and we are with lots of saudades da Bahia...

The stay was excellent, we loved the pousada and the people there.
Thank you for the worm hospitality and help, which was very important for us
travelling with troublesome boys...
I really enjoyed playing and singing with you guys... though I should have
prepared better!
I would definetely recommend the pousada to my friends, and one day I will
come back with the kids again!

I'm sending some pictures as per attached.
Please extend our abracos to your family and your staff!

Best Regards,

Keiichiro, Junko, Sotaro, Shinjiro and Seizaburo Kuwabara

Dear Octacilio and Janet,

Shari and I wanted to thank you two for making our Brazil experience an unforgettable one. We managed to relax and unwind but also be excited and thrilled at the same time!

We were so honored that you took the time and trouble to catch the bus to have dinner with us that last night, it was truly a fine evening. As for my search for "diamonds in the sand", I occasionally resort to that (and successfully find some precious stones!) but I do remember your lessons and have applied them to some songs that I had previously worked on, such as Garota de Ipanema. I think I have learned some valuable lessons from you that will stick. Thank you!

I have already ordered some Jobim and Gilberto CD's and songbooks and am anxiously awaiting their arrival. In the meantime, Shari and I have listened to your CD and are enjoying it thoroughly. I am very impressed with the range of genres of your songs - each one is uniquely different but high quality. I am looking forward to buying your next release. Please let me know when it is available. Finally, Shari and I did a hotel review of Encanto, so please look for it (under the name "shario" on TripAdvisor. I think you will be pleased. I do hope we can meet again and share our experiences and friendship. In the meantime, feel free to write. With warm regards,

Rodney and Shari

Dear Jan and Octacilio,

Hope you're keeping well. I've been meaning to write for some time but life has been very busy since we got back and the weeks go by very quickly.

We all had a wonderful time during our stay in Salvador....truly an unforgetable holiday. We all have so many memories to look back on and smile!!

The autumn has arrived here in the UK....misty mornings and log fires! Catrin has started her course in Birmingham and is apparently enjoying student life with full enthusiasm!!

Thank you so much for the CD that you sent with Keith & Lucy....a little bit of Brazilian sunshine to warm our autumn evenings!

You made us feel very welcome in Salvador, both at the pousada and at your home - thank you for that. We felt safe and looked-after as soon as we arrived. I will put an entry on Tripadvisor over the next few days to reflect your hospitality. Please remember us to all the staff at Encanto De Itapoan and thank them for their kindness during our stay.

If any of you are ever in the UK you would be warmly greeted....We'll keep a welcome in the hillside!!

Hope to see you again in the not too distant future.

Best wishes and Hi to everyone at Stella Maris,

Geraint, Verity, Catrin & Ffion x

Janet,

we slept for 11+ hours last night for a much needed catch-up! Whether Judy managed to get to work today we still haven't heard, but I would be amazed - and impressed - if she did.

Thank you so much for making our holiday so enjoyable: we loved the pousada - even more while we had it more or less to ourselves! - and felt very much at home there. You have a great staff there who contributed much to the enjoyment - our thanks to them, too.

It was quite a shock to arrive back here to the gloom of winter with temperatures around 20°C lower than in Brazil. We immediately noticed the lack of bright colours, too: what a contrast.

You can be sure that we shall be "spreading the word" on your behalf, and we would all love to pay you a visit again.

Love from Claudia & John

Dear Rochas,
I was absolutely delighted to find you had your own radio station. I will take the opportunity to express my gratitude...

I will never forget your enormous kindness (you may not remember... but you took me out for lunch and even drove me to the airport !... Most probably you do that with most visitors... !!

I spent some time sitting in the verandah with Mr Rocha while he made me listen to a wide array of fabulous musicians and composers including himself and Bia... I was deeply moved to tears... unexpectedly... and unexplained. Music has such an effect on me sometimes. I was terribly embarrassed because I couldn't explain what was happening to me. Mr Rocha asked no questions and he kept on playing music while I took down the names of the records he strongly recommended trying desperately to hide the tears... I thank you for your silence.... I am still looking for a CD by the Irmaos Espíndola... I am hopeful to listen to some tracks on the radio!!

I wish you the very best to you all... Who knows... maybe some day I will go back to Salvador... But if you happen to come to Argentina, to my city, Córdoba, it will be a pleasure to show you around!

Forever thankful for your warm kindness,

Carola

Dear Jan & Octacilio,

We're back in Chicago now, dreaming of our wonderful stay at Encanto de Itapoan! What a marvelous haven you've created there for travelers. Not only do we have fond memories of a beautiful place, but we also now have new friends that we met at your pousada. We miss the beach, the breakfast buffet, the people, the music, you two...we miss it all!

Thanks so much for making us feel so at home. We're already scheming as to how we can get back there again as soon as possible.

Here are a few photos from our stay. We hope to see you again very soon!

Boa tarde Jan & Octocilio,

A cool rainy Maine is quite the meteorological smack in the face after warm Salvador....but after trudging through airports and planes with a tired Manuela & an overactive Gracie for 25 hours, there's no place like home....although Itapoa ain't too shabby.

For your Cleveland singing amiga, here is my station webpage:
www.wmpg.org and go to 'Listen'. My show , The Grooveyard Shift, is on Tuesday mornings from 6:30am- 8:30am eastern time. I'd love to chat with her and hook her up with our 'Homeless Marathon' people at the station.

I hope you have gotten through your moving in one piece and now can enjoy your new abode.

Now seriously, should you ever visit the states....especially in New England, please visit us in Maine. Likewise for Cabo Verde. Even if we are not there the same time you go, we can hook you up with some nice pousadas, people, food, music and islands.

We enjoyed your 'Encanto' and particularly were impressed with the staff....all great people.

Until next time.

Ate depois,
John, Manuela & Gracie

Dear Janet,

On behalf of myself, my husband Ben and daughter Yasmine, I would like to thank you and your staff so much for making our stay in your Pousada at the beginning of April so memorable.

We have recently arrived back from our trip to Brazil where we had a fabulous time, and the few days we spent in your Pousada were some of the most enjoyable.

We really appreciated your friendly chatter and great advice on drivers, guides, where to eat, where to visit, etc. We also loved the relaxed, laid back atmosphere, the delicious home-made breakfasts, the little touches like hammocks in our room, the special attention our little girl received (she loved the bucket!) and the general friendliness and constant smiles of all your staff. We also have fond memories of Itapoan beach, just a few steps away and the time we spent at Damien’s little restaurant by the beach.

Thank you also for helping to find our belongings which we accidentally left in our room after leaving.

We have spoken highly of you to our friends and our Swiss travel agent and would highly recommend your Pousada to anyone considering a stay in Salvador. It exudes charm and offers all the wonderful Brazilian attributes we were looking forward to experiencing.

Thank you again.

Best regards,

Saada Thurley

Dear Jan & Octacilio,

We are safely home, and now trying to adjust back to English Spring weather ~ quite cold after Bahia! Feeling the effects of jetlag, and maybe too many (or lack of) caipirinhas! No problem, we have our own supply!

We thank you both, and all your friendly and willing Staff, so very much for our delightful stay at "Encanto". It is in a beautiful setting and we wish we were sitting there by the pool right now and listening to bossa~nova with a glass of something cool! At least we can play the music here, and we bought several new CDs to take home. Thank you also for the thoughtful hospitality shown to us, along with Deb and Peter, in arranging the musical evenings, and our lovely day with the family at Guarajuba Beach. Your girls are very beautiful and it was lovely to meet them. This has been a very special holiday in more ways than one, in being able to meet Deb and Peter at last, and sharing so much of all that we love about Brasil with all of our new Brasilian friends. Please pass on our good wishes to them all. We will send a few photos in due course. When you have the time, we look forward to receiving the Portuguese and English translation of Dama da Noite. If that song is not a hit, I shall want to know why! It's so catchy and Bia's voice really has something special. We just keep playing it!

While we waited in the departure lounge at Salvador Airport, there was on-screen a video featuring Chico Buarque and several other Brasilian artistes. This was also showing on our arrival. Although I could not understand much of the language, it was obviously a tribute to Tom Jobim, and I asked around whether it was possible to buy this video or DVD, but no-one seemed to know. I wonder whether you, Octacilio, might know whether it is available for purchase, or whether it is purely for promotional purposes? We would really love to have a copy, if possible.

Many thanks again ~ ate logo,

Jan and Octacilio,

We sent the following message on New Years Eve but I've just realised you'll have never received it. Hope you are both well.

'Unfortunately, it's taken a while for us to write but hopefully you'll remember both Michelle and I, ( Manchester , U.K. ), from the time we spent at your fabulous Pousada earlier this year?

We have looked at the website many times since we arrived back from our trip to Brazil in September/October. Each time we look at the site it evokes fond memories of the time we spent in Salvador and in particular the time we spent in your company. The descriptions of all things Bahian which appear, as well as guest comments, music samples, photographs of Octacilio and Beatriz, etc. are, (in our experience ), certainly a true representation of the ‘Pousada Encanto De Itapoan'. We will definitely be re-visiting – hopefully in 2006. You were the perfect, convivial hosts with wonderfully helpful, attentive and friendly staff, (incidentally does Marceo ever stop smiling)?

Thank you both once again for your kind hospitality. It was a pleasure meeting you all.

Hi Janet & Octacilio,

I would just like to thank you in writing and send both Nathalies & my own heartfelt recommendations for your Pousada.
As I have read on other emails on your site, we intended only to stay in Itapua for 5 days then move around Bahia, however the fact that we ended up staying with you for 3 weeks speaks volumes in itself.

The style and layout of your Pousada is lovely, th e staff are all (without exception) very friendly and will bend over backwards to make sure their guests are satisfied. The atmosphere was laid back & I talked to more other guests than I ever have on holiday.

However above and beyond all that, it was you, the owners who made it special for us - both because of all the help you gave us in organising and getting things done, but also because of the fun times we had together having a drink (or two) next to the pool putting the world to rights. I think that within 3 weeks we became friends who will always stay in contact.

I cannot recommend this place high enough to anyone who enjoys that personal touch & appreciates a relaxing ambiance.
We will see you again soon.

Best regards,

Grant & Nathalie

Dear Friends,

We have found our work feet again and now it is time to say thank you for the lovely stay at your pousada.  As we have said on a number of occasions, if it wasn't for staying with yourselves, our time in Salvador would not have been half as nice; we shall recommend you to whomever we can.

We came back to what for us is a mild temperature of 13C, for you this is probably freezing, and so the transition from 30C was not too hard.  We're very happy to be back on our farm, where the calm is serene, apart from the fairly frequent howling wind that we get on our hilltop.  I have to say that our Brazilian experience this time has been a noisy one for us country dwellers, apart from the calm of room 11 (discounting the odd poodle pandemonium); fortunately the barraca Rainha do Mar is not as upmarket as some of the others, so they couldn't afford such a powerful and gut-shaking sound system.  However, we did enjoy being in the middle of it all and had a really relaxing time.

We are listening to Octacilio's record quite frequently and Dama da Noite has become a constant companion, it really is a lovely tune, langurous and catchy - could I get the words for it, please?  If it was sung in English, it could become a hit!  Bia should translate it.  I hope to do a instrumental version of it and will send it to you when that happens.

It was great to have made the connection with you, with Randy and with Swiss Daniel, now there's another corner of Brazil that we know more personally rather than as mere tourists.  Keep up the good work, we'll stay in touch.

Kind regards

Paddy & Catherine

Subject: Greetings from Canada - and some Pictures

Hi Octacilio and the Encanto Family,

It's been almost 2 weeks since we got back to the frigid North. Winter has
not left us yet and memories of a wonderful few days in sunny Brasil are
still fresh in our minds. It's so hard to get back into the flow of our
daily work routines, but normal life must go on.

I must thank you personally for giving us the best first impressions of your
country and its peoples. Salvador de Bahia was our first stay in Brasil and
your helpful little notes and advice were most instrumental in allowing us
to see the most in the shortest possible time. At times we felt, we were
imposing too much on your time and hospitality, as it was obvious you had
your hands full trying to run a business on a daily basis. We met other
delightful guests - the Italian gang (pictures enclosed), which goes to show
what a family environment your Pousada is. But you went out of your way to
help us and all these good feelings made us realise, we definitely would
like to be back and for a longer stay next time.

After we left Salvador, we visited Fortaleza in Ceara State. There too, we
were very fortunate to stay in a hotel where the staff were immensely
helpful. We took a day trip to wonderful beach community called Canoa
Quebrada, but did not have enough time to go to Jericoacoara. Obviously, the
country is so beautiful and there is so much to see. We spent our last 3
days in Rio and that too was a most pleasant experience. On our last day, we
went up to the Corcovado, on a rainy day almost at dusk. It was almost like
a spiritual experience to be up there in the clouds and to look down at this
marvellous jewel of a city of natural and man-made beauty, sparkling through
the mist.

The one area of our expectations that was not met was to see music 'en
vivo'. There was a free outdoor event on the beach on the weekend in Rio,
but the music was very much like North American Rock, Rap and R&B - probably
intended for the mostly young audience. However, I was able to find CD's by
some of the artists you had recommended: Paula Morelenbaum's "Berimbaum",
Fernanda Porto's "Giramundo", Jobim's "Sinfonico", A composite double CD
called Chill: Brazil and best of all a CD by Milton Nascimento "Pieta". I
hope next time I come to Brasil, I will have the opportunity to see one of
these artists live.

Once again, my heart-felt Thank you to you and your family. Best regards
from Gisele also and from our American friend Karin. We definitely will see
you again and soon.

Hello Janet and Octacilio,

I apologize for not e-mailing to you folks earlier to let you know how much we enjoyed meeting you and your staff and our stay at encanto de Itapoan.  I have attached a few images below as a reminder.  The four of us had initially been booked into a pousada in Pelourinho but there was a mix up and thankfully we found your place instead.

Having never stayed in a pousada before I'm sure we're all spoiled for the future.  The rooms really are great.  I love the hammock thing you Brazilians have going.  I'm an early riser while Suzanne is anything but.  There is no better compromise than my quietly sneaking out to the balcony to read for an hour or two while swinging away in the hammock.  Definitely a great way to begin a day.

The facilities are really first class.  All of the staff was very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was great.  It really suits our way of eating.

Much to my surprise the most enjoyable aspect of pousada encanto life turned out to be the sociability of the place.  Maybe it holds true for a lot of pousadas but I doubt it.  Being that I am extremely shy and introverted (my tongue is presently bursting through my cheek) I was surprised to find how enjoyable this communal way of travelling can be.  First, you get to meet people from all over the world and hear their stories and experiences.  This really gets me stoked.  Secondly, you get all kinds of great information about Salvador and being there for such a limited time this really helped us pick and choose what to do.  It was interesting how people congregated around breakfast to discuss what the day had in store and then again in the evening to describe what had happened.  Never was the conversation intrusive and people participated only if they felt like it.  It was very relaxed.

Maybe you will remember that we were leaving Salvador and moving up to Costa do Sauipe.  You asked that we let you know what it was like.  Well it's like pretty well any other resort destination we've been to.  Although it was an enjoyable time (how can laying on a palm lined beach sipping a Caipirinhas be anything but) it was very touristy (thankfully for the most part Brazilian tourists) and tended to wring the cultural experience of visiting Bahia from our time.

Next time, and there will certainly be one, we will spend all of our time in Bahia with you guys at encanto de Itapoan.

Thanks again and really hope to see you again before too long,

Jerry Garvey, Suzanne Davidson, Bruce Thibaudeau and Michele Davidson

Dear Janet and Octacilio,

First, we owe you a belated but heart felt many thanks for all that you did for us last April during our stay in Salvador and at Pousada Encanto de Itapoan.  I am sure that I would not have recovered from my appendicitis/peritonitis so quickly had it not been for your deep concern for my welfare and for going so far out of your way to see that I received the best medical care possible (that includes the care I might have received in the US).  Both of you were a huge help in supporting Maria during my stay at Hospital Alianca.   Maria and I look at our experience last year as one of our best experiences in Brasil over the many years we have visited.  You two and your staff are the BEST!  Maria and I will not even consider staying anywhere else in Salvador.  If there is anything we can ever do for you, please let us know.

Hi Janet and Octacillio

Just wanted to say what a fantastic time we had at your Pousada. Your hospitality and generosity of spirit is wonderful, the rooms are great (hammocks a treat!), breakfasts - a fresh fruit and cake extravaganza, the location is perfect. Just wish we got Tony into some kind of guitar action…next time, we WILL be back.!! Morro de SP was tremendous – any place where the wheelbarrow is second only to the mule as mode of transport is paradise, Rio a joy etc etc

Got bitten by a spider in Igaucu but hell, all part of the experience. Love to see you whenever in London .

Hi guys,

First of all humble apologies for our hurried departure - it just shows
how chilled out you can get after 3 weeks in Bahia. I am sure my

Thank you both for a lovely week - we had a great time with you and look

Aja has been making caipirinhas for our friends but she admits that
Denilsons are better. They also seem to taste better when it's not

Its meanwhile a month that I'm back in Switzerland and I cannot tell you how much I already miss Bahia. Many thanks again for your great hospitality and support during our stay in Itapoa. I'm very happy that we found your pousada and didn't go instead to one in the city. Much better to sleep in a calm environment with a beautiful beach and brilliant restaurants right in front of the door. And as it is very easy to go to the center of Salvador, we had enough entertainment as well.

I hope everything goes all right over there and I'm looking forward to my next stay in your pousada.

Dear Janet,
We want to write and express our sincere thanks for the hospitality,
comfort, and security we felt in your lovely pousada.  As we look out at
the rain and snow here in northern Utah, we can't help but reflect on

Jan and Octacilio,

Thank you so much for helping to make our vacation fabulous in Salvador . Your Pousada was fantastic in every way. We only planned on staying a week but loved the area and the pousada so much we stayed 3 weeks. I wouldn't have done anything differently. You are great people and so helpful with information of the area.

The Pousada Encanto de Itapoan was within walking distance to 5 absolutely wonderful restaurants that were so reasonably priced but had 5 star service and food. All those baracas serving really fresh caught that day fish 2 minutes from the Pousada were a treat as well. You can't beat the view from any baraca. On our long morning walks we got used to saying “ bom dia” to those setting up for their day of work.We passed people having soccer games on the beaches, surfers, joggers , walkers, bicyclists and many people hopping on buses to work. We felt very safe in this village in Salvador. The people are hardworking and friendly. They are so happy.

The friends we made at your pousada will long endure. You entertain so many interesting guests from all over the world. I am so glad we didn't stay at a big stuffy hotel for many reasons. Your location to the beach (2 minutes walking) and to so many great restaurants (4 or 5 minutes walking), the honest friendly staff, crisp clean sheets, comfy bed, internet access, fantastic caiparinhas (thanks to Dennilson, world famous bartender) are just a few reasons.

We enjoyed listening to great music both upstairs in the sitting area that has nice cushy couches and the breakfast / bar area that has the same covered but open air design. You were brilliant to design the Pousada to let your guests enjoy Brazil 's beautiful weather as much as possible. One of our favorite cds was Octacilio's. It was an honor to hear him live one night, too!

The verandas are a nice touch and I especially appreciated it when my husband was freezing me out of the room with air conditioning. The generous breakfast was scrumptious. Thanks for the many local dishes you offered, hot freshly baked breads, variety of fruits as well the many fresh squeezed juices.

Dennis says your coffee is the best and he is a coffee gourmet. You know you'll see us again for sure! Say hi to Elaina, Bea, Dennilson, Leanne and the rest of the staff.

Hello Dear Jan,
I have shed a few more tears since our departure from Itapoan, our meeting was so wonderful   Thank you for all that you did to make us feel a part of your family - it was so very special and I shall smile each and every time I think of you.

I hope that all is well with the girls and that you have gotten back in to your routine!  Must be glad to get rid of us as we were so demanding of your time...but, I am glad that we were selfish!

I cannot wait for you and me to go out and shake up Bahia!  Get your bump machine goin' sista!   It would be incredible to bring our family to the Pousada...you might never get rid of us!

Take care love - I am missing you.

Love - Deb

Dear Janet and Octacilio

Thanks for making our stay in Bahia so enjoyable
We loved your pousada and had a great time there.
We have told everybody about you - in fact I wrote the following mail to my travel agent :

I am writing to you just to inform you that the pousada Encanto de Itapoan in Salvador
is worth every penny
Rooms and facilities are topclass - only 12 suites in all ensures a quiet and peaceful atmosphere
The hosts very kind and helpful as well as very professional. The staff is fantastic.
We met a lot of nice people from various countries during our visit.
The breakfast buffet is worth a special mention - fresh bread and huge amounts of delicious fresh fruit and juice.
The coffee is the best I've tasted

Dear Octacilio and Janet, We are back home again and we have had a wonderful time again in Brazil. We want to thank you for the warm welcome and all your hospitality during our stay in your pousada. Our son Luuk loved your swimming pool and we were particularly fond of the very nice caipirinha's as well as the great breakfasts.

Dear Janet and Octacilio, Dear Rochas & Co,

Already a month ago that I left Salvador, but I'm often thinking of the wonderful time I spent at your enchanting, peaceful and beautiful pousada and beach of Itapoã.

Many thanks to you and your personnel (shame on me.... I don't remember their names): you were all so friendly and sympathetic !

Rio de Janeiro was very nice too, but I prefer the more joyful, warm and colourful Bahian ambience, the praia of Itapoã with its beach-bars, their music and delicious maqueca's. In Rio I stayed with friends who have an apartment in Ipanema.... at rua Vinicius de Moraes ! In the evening I ate at the “Garota de Ipanema” and listened to bossa nova concerts at the bar "Vinicius"..... As if Vinicius was the theme of my voyage in Brazil, my "guarding angel" from Itapoã to Rio.

Besides a lot of marvellous “small” concerts in various bars, I've also been to a concert of Nay Matogrosso:  very good music and a fantastic show !

To summarize; I had some wonderful holidays in Brazil  ! And I hope I'll have the pleasure to meet you again..... some of these years.

Whenever you're near or in Geneva,  you're more than welcome !

Kind regards and very best wishes to all of you,

Cynthia

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Rochas,

We would like to thank you again for having us at your lovely pousada. We enjoyed the time we spent their very much and we hope to spend more time with you next year. We arrived home safely but it is taking some time to adjust. It is pretty cold down here, temperatures are slightly under and above zero. No more of Danielson's famous caipirinhas, acarajé or sunshine :(

Mrs. Rochas thanks so much for dropping us off at the airport!!! Things turned out well, I didn't have to pay in Brasil for carrying too many things and in Holland they didn't check me at customs so there was no delay and we could go home quickly. Hope you're both doing well!!!

Greetings from Holland... Jacky and Lukasz

Dear Janet and Octacilio,

Well, here I am back in 32 degree weather with sleet and snow, so you can imagine how I miss your paradise!  It was a LOVELY stay and now I am going through sun and caipirinha withdrawal.

Thank you so much for making it so pleasant for us all. Would you be kind enough to tell Sara a few things for me?  1) I left my postcards in my room, and I would appreciate it if she would mail them.  The post office should be open by this time.  2)  I left The New Yorker in my room, in case they, or you, want to read it.  If not, just throw it away. 3) I talked with Allen, her brother, and he said they tried to call her on her birthday, but there was no answer.  It was about 7PM Brazil time, so we were out anyway.

Thank you again for my sweet key holder.  It is a happy reminder of my delightful stay at Pousada Encanto de Itapoan. My best to everyone.

Gloria

Thank you so much for a very relaxing, memorable, and legendary trip. I was able to get the relaxation I was looking for and my speech has definitely slowed from the quick pace in New York.

Pousada Encanto de Itapoan sits on the edge of Metropolitan Salvador, close to the beautiful beaches of the City and the coast to the east, forty minutes from the bustle and exitement of Salvador. The Pousada is a haven of peace and friendship with an interesting international clientele. Tony and Jan provide a warm and helpful welcome in a comfortable and relaxed environment. We´ll be back.

Sólo me resta decir MUITO OBRIGRADO = MUCHAS GRACIAS!!!

It´s almost a pity to leave again ... We have spent some days here in this pousada with our friends and enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. All the people here are very kind. We really felt at home (only at home we don´t have this nice weather, palm trees, coconuts, fresh fish, fresh fruits). At home there will be rain, cold, darkness ... typical dutch weather...). Anyway, it was great to be here. Thanks for all.

Tony and Janet, It is testment to both of you, your wonderful staff and your beatiful pousada that despite the unprecedented rain we are thuly, truly sad to be leaving. This was our first taste of Brazil and we could not have asked for more - relaxed and easy going atmosphere, beaches & city in easy reach, a fine pool on site, not to mention the cocktails - now - those we will miss. So off we go to Rio, knowing we will be back and knowing we will be recommending you to everyone! All the very best & see you soon!

We spent a few days during Christmas in the pousada.  What a nice place to stay. Octacilio is making sure that you don´t miss anything inside and outside the pousada.  He told us where everything happened in Salvador.  One of the things we visited was a performance of Olodum, a famous Brazilian band.  On Christmas we had a great meal with all the other guests in the pousada.  That was very nice!  For the rest, the service is good, the breakfast perfect, and the caipirinhas are great! Dedanht voon alles. Groetjes.

Wow! What a wonderful place to stay. We have had the most relaxing 5 days here in Itapuã and we have been so well looked after. Pousada Encanto de Itapoan is the perfect place to unwind, away from the hustle and bustle of Pelourinho and within easy reach of the beach. Janet and "Tony" and all the staff have given the warmest welcome. We will definitely be back for the the speciality of the house...pineapple caipirinha!  Thank you for your kind hospitality.

We've so enjoyed staying here in this very relaxing and comfortable atmosphere. It has been the perfect way to wind down before we return to October in the UK. We're so glad we waited fourteen years, from idea to fulfillment, before visiting Bahia. Just think we'd have missed out on staying at the most delightful of places. Your pousada truly is enchanted and enchanting in equal measure. Close to the beach, it was a joy for me to stroll down there to witness the magical Bahian sunrises. Janet and "Tony" are the best hosts in all Bahia, very informative, they made sure we didn't miss a single bit of all that Bahia had to offer the visitors - and in English too.

I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Bahia. This is a wonderful place! The Pousada Encanto de Itapoan is absolutely, without a doubt the best place to stay in Bahia. Friendly staff. Wonderful advice and information on what to do, where to go. Quiet, on a wonderful section of beach with limitless opportunities to explore. Janet and Octacilio are wonderful hosts. The Encanto de Itapoan is close enough to the center of the city that you can access the activity/ nightlife of the city yet some of the best restaurants, and by far, without a doubt the best beaches are right on your doorstep! Thank you Janet and Octacilio for a wonderful time!

Our stay at the Pousada Encanto de Itapoan was a pleasant change from the large mega resort type of vacation. My wife and I had all of the amenities ( pool, breakfast etc.) associated with a large hotel, along with the personal attention of a guesthouse. The owners at once made us feel comfortable and at home. They were always available, along with their staff, to give the extra attention which made us feel like special guests. It was observed that all of the guests were also treated in this manner. The relaxed atmosphere made this a completely enjoyable experience. We would highly recommend the Pousada to anyone interested in experiencing Salvador as it should be, with it's friendly people. We certainly look forward to a return visit to our new friends in Salvador.

Uao!

We had a wonderful stay at the Pousada. We especially enjoyed the beach, the ocean and the tide pools. Ricardo and Andy enjoyed hunting for shrimps, crabs and fish in pools. We'd recommend encouraging people to snorkel the racky outcrop at low tide. There are plenty of creatures (moray eels, crabs, french angelfish, damsels, tangs and shrimp) to see. Libby enjoyed the birds in the courtyard, especially the hummingbird. The caipirinhas, especially the caipirinhas with pineapple instead of lime, were excellent! Can't wait to come back! If you're ever in Florida, drop us an e-mail.
